We are proud to have supported the St Luke's Health Center in Uganda, funding the project, and thus helping to make this reality independent, which will now be able to seek contributions at a local level": says in a statement sent to Agenzia Fides, Godwin Yidana, coordinator of the international programs of Catholic Mission Australia, the Australian directorate of the Pontifical Mission Societies, commenting on the positive results of a recent survey carried out by the Ugandan Ministry of Health.
The research reveals that the "St. Luke Health Center", was the first health care provider in the district of Kibaale, in the western province of the country, surpassing other 81 centers. The assessment took into account various aspects such as financial management, infrastructure, services and medical tools.
Sister Mary Goretti, responsible of the St. Luke Hospital, explains: "This milestone opens up further opportunities to receive new funding from the Ministry of Health and aid from the World Bank. I would like to thank Catholic Mission Australia for its support, which will allow the St. Luke Health Center to reach this milestone".
In 2017 Catholic Mission focused the attention of the Australian Church on the work started by Sister Mary in Uganda: the primary need was that of an ambulance that would allow pregnant women to reach the hospital in time for childbirth.
With the funds collected, we read in the note sent to Fides, in addition to means of medical transport, it was possible to purchase other equipment, such as an incubator and an ultrasound machine. (LF) (Agenzia Fides, 22/9/2018)
