Lahore (Fides Service) - The Pontifical Mission Societies in Pakistan, Holy Childhood office, involves Catholic school children in songs, prayers and festivities to collect funds in aid of the poor.
The children sing together, bring gifts, use their talents and enthusiasm to collect funds to help poorer children in many other parts of the world. “But at Christmas the most important thing is to make room for the Child Jesus in your hearts and homes”, the children were told by Fr Diego Saleh who organised the initiative in collaboration with national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Pakistan. Fr. Mario Rodrigues.
The Pontifical Mission Societies are a positive influence among young people. In fact experience as members of Holy Childhood led elder children to form Youth for Christ association, the first youth group to be officially recognised by the Church in Pakistan. Members of Youth for Christ take part in prayer meetings, listening to the Word of God and social work in favour of the poorer children as well as initiatives to share the good news of the Gospel with non Christian young people.
The association also promotes initiatives of dialogue and peace building, to educate the young people in the values of social harmony and reconciliation. Encouraged by the Bishops of Pakistan Youth for Christ is proposed to Catholic schools as a channel of mission among non Christian pupils and students.
