Accra (Agenzia Fides) - " We have received media reports on the threat of attack on members of the Judiciary allegedly made by two panelists during a radio discussion on an Accra-based Muntie FM with a lot of worry and anxiety, and we wish to join individuals and groups which have already condemned this act", say the Catholic Bishops of Ghana, in a declaration signed by His Exc. Mgr. Joseph Osei- Bonsu, Archbishop of Konongo-Mampong and President of the Episcopal Conference of Ghana.
" We are of the view that this alleged threat should not be taken lightly", said the statement, sent to Agenzia Fides. "Any attack on the Judiciary, the custodians of Law in our country, is an attack on our freedom and security as a nation".
The statement concludes by inviting everyone to learn "to speak words which bring harmony and peace".
The Bishops had already intervened to denounce hate speeches and invite politicians to lower the tone of confrontation ahead of general elections on 7 November this year (see Fides 14/11/2015). (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 11/07/2016)
