Lahore (Agenzia Fides) - Religious leaders met in Lahore to pray "for the recovery and long life" of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, 66, who in recent days underwent a delicate heart surgery in London . The prayer was organized by leaders and scholars of different religions of the Council for Interreligious Dialogue, created by Fr. Francis Nadeem and led by Muslim leader sufi Pir Shafaat Rasool.
Men, women, youth and children belonging to different religions were present for the interfaith prayer. The participants, who sang the national anthem of Pakistan, also recited an invocation "for the development and prosperity of the country and for the success of the Pakistani armed forces in the operation against terrorists".
On behalf of the Prime Minister's family, his cousin Mr. Arif Hameed was present, who thanked the Council for having organized this event. "Nawaz Sharif’s operation was successful and is now recovering rapidly", he said. Those present appreciate the Prime Minister's efforts for the development of the country and expressed the hope that he will "recover quickly and continue his service with the same enthusiasm".
