Lahore (Agenzia Fides) - The Church in Pakistan has welcomed the gift of five new Capuchin Franciscan friars ordained priests: as reported to Fides by the Provincial of Pakistan, Fr. Francis Nadeem, the ordination was held on 8 April in the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Lahore, during the Mass presided by His Exc. Mgr. Sebastian Shaw. The five friars are: Lazar Aslam, Adnan Kashif, Azam Siddique, Almas Yousaf and Adeel Mazhar.
This is what the Archbishop told the five new priests: "We have the example of St. Francis of Assisi" who, "took care of lepers, the most repulsive victims". "St. Francis did not ask God anything. He always prayed: Lord, what do you want me to do. I ask all of you to pray like St. Francis. Listen to the Word of God, who will always give what is right for your life". He then asked them to be "authentic witnesses of the Gospel", these are the people that the world and the Church need. The Archbishop made in particular reference to the Jubilee of Mercy. "If we remain in God's hands, then our hearts will be oases of mercy, forgiveness and humility", he concluded. Lahore is the largest Catholic archdiocese in Pakistan, divided into 27 parishes.
