ASIA/TAIWAN - New National Director for Pontifical Mission Societies

Vatican City (Fides Service) - Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples on 15 July 2005, appointed Rev. John Hung Shan-chuan of the Society of the Divine World (SVD), National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Taiwan for a five year term 2005-2010.
The new national director is 62 and has been a priest for 30 years. He has a degree in philosophy and a licentiate in theology. After ten years of ministry he obtained a degree in Guidance and Counselling at Washington University. He has since been: parish priest (2 years), teacher of English, secretary of the Bishops’ Commissions for the Laity and for Evangelisation, dean of the Catholic Centre at Fu Jen Catholic University Taipei, national prison chaplain.
