Port au Prince (Agenzia Fides) - Haiti's presidential run-off, scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, January 24 has been cancelled amid violent street clashes and political uncertainty.

The appeal launched by the Episcopal Conference to the government, the Electoral Commission and other actors involved in the elections, to exercise wisdom, intuition and the ability to dialogue in order to find an acceptable and sustainable solution for the Haitian people as soon as possible, seems was heard only by very few (see Fides 22/01/2016).

Throughout the week, Haiti was rocked by violent protests calling on the government to postpone the ballot because the opposition believes that during the first round, on October 25 there had been fraud. In addition, the main opposition candidate Jude Celestin, has refused to campaign. All this has created an uncontrollable situation in the country. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 23/01/2016)
