AMERICA/BRAZIL - Bishops of Brazil appeal for solidarity in aid of victims of natural disasters in Guatemala, El Salvador, Pakistan and India.

Brasilia (Fides Service) - “We are faced with a series of major catastrophes in Guatemala, El Salvador, Pakistan and India, with thousands of dead, over four million injured or displaced, and widespread devastation and destruction” the Catholic Bishops of Brazil wrote in an Appeal for Solidarity to help victims of natural disasters. Caritas Brazil has opened two bank accounts for those who wish to make a contribution of solidarity: Banco do Brasil, Agenzia 3475-4, C/C n° 9303-3 C; Banco Bradesco, Ag. 0484-7 C/C nº66000-0.
The President of the Bishops’ Conference said the campaign will close on 10 December. He asked for special collections in the coming Sundays in parishes, dioceses and schools. He also encourages the use of the media to promote the campaign further.
