VATICAN - The Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples appoints new Pontifical Mission Societies general secretaries

Vatican City (Fides Service) - Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples called a meeting with the staff of the Pontifical Mission Societies to announce the appointment of Secretaries General of the Pontifical Mission Societies.
Fr Fernando Galbiati, (PIME), former Secretary general of the Pontifical Missionary Union and ad interim of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith, has been appointed general secretary of the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith “donec aliter provideatur”. The task of the Society founded in 1822 by venerable Pauline Jaricot is to promote missionary cooperation among Christian communities, sustain missionary vocations, educate to a spirit of mission and organise various initiatives to collect funds particularly on the annual World Mission Sunday.
Reverend Jan Dumon a member of the clergy of Bruges and since 1999 national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Belgium, has been appointed secretary general of the Pontifical Society St Peter Apostle. The Society was founded in 1889 in Caen, France by Madame and Mademoiselle Bigard to support local clergy in missionary territories and also candidates for the religious life.
Fr. Vito del Prete, PIME, since 2002 national secretary of the Pontifical Missionary Union in Italy has been appointed secretary general of the Pontifical Missionary Union. The Union was founded by Blessed Paolo Manna PIME in Italy in 1916 to promote missionary animation for priests, men and women religious and other people involved in the Church’s pastoral ministry
F. Patrick Byrne, Divine Word Missionary has been confirmed for another five year term secretary general of the Pontifical Holy Childhood Society. The Society was founded in France in 1843 by Bishop de Forbin Janson of Nancy to promote among children awareness of material and spiritual needs of less fortunate children in mission territories.
