AFRICA/BURUNDI - New major inter-diocesan Seminary in Buta appointment of Rector

Vatican City (Fides Service) - Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, on 22 August 2005 gave his approval for the establishment of the Major Inter-diocesan Seminary of Buta, diocese of Bururi (Burundi). On the same day he appointed Rector of the new Seminary Rev. Denis Ndikumana, a member of the clergy of Buiumbura.
The new Rector was born on 23 July 1963 at Rutana. He attended minor seminary in Buta (1976/80) and Mugera (1980/83), then, after a propaedutic year in Bujumbura (1983/84), studied philosophy at Bujumbura major seminary (1984/86) and theology at Burasira major seminary (1986/90). He was ordained a priest on 7 September 1990 in Bujumbura (Gikungu). From1992 to 1999 ha studied dogmatic and sociological theology at the Albert-Ludwig University in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. He has been assistant priest in various parishes in Burundi and in Germany (1990-1999); Rector of Saint Paul minor seminary Buta (since 2000); Professor at Gitega seminary (since 2001); member of the Burundian Bishops’ Commission for vocations and seminaries (since 2000); secretary of Burundian Bishops’ Commission for Doctrine and Ecumenism (since 2002). From 2001 to 2003 he has lectured on an “introduction to sociology” at Great Lakes University in Kiremba (Bururi). (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 10/9/2005; Righe 16; Parole 208)
