Tai Yuan (Fides Service) - A Charity Service Centre, a parish bulletin ‘The Oratory’, catechism classes are some of the activities organised by Sacred Heart of Jesus parish in the village of Sha Gou, Tai Yuan diocese, Shan Xi province.
This Catholic village with a population of 2,000 people has a history of 300 years. The Gospel first arrived here in 1705. By 1940 the village had three churches. The most important was Sha Gou parish church dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus built by an Italian missionary in 1906-1907.
At the end of China’s Cultural revolution, the parish began to live again. The faithful helped to start a new life. A new Sacred Heart church 600sq mt was built and consecrated in 1994. The money for the construction was collected by the villagers themselves. Through the years the faith continued to spread and the villagers evangelise everywhere even at the local market, among family members and friends and today the number of baptisms grows every year.
