ASIA/HONG KONG - On a visit to her Sisters in several Asian countries superior general of the Missionaries of Charity visits Hong Kong for the first time

Hong Kong (Fides Service) - After visiting her Sisters in South Korea and Mongolia on her journey to see Missionaries of Charity communities in various countries of Asia, on 11 July Sr Nirmala Joshi superior general of Missionaries of Charity founded by Blesssed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, arrived in Hong Kong to make her first visit to this Province of the Missionaries of Charity. According to Kong Ko Bao Hong diocesan bulletin Sr Nirmala, accompanied by her counsellor general Sr Nirmala Maria, met the Bishop of Hong Kong Joseph Zen and then went to visit the local Missionaries of Charity Sisters and lay members who showed her some of their activities. At a special Mass for the occasion presided by Mgr. Dominic Chan Vicar general of Hong Kong, Sr. M. Leon Superior provincial Hong Kong welcomed Sr Nirmala and said: “we are happy to be able to share the joy of our service in Hong Kong with you ”. Qouting Mother Teresa Sr Nirmala encouraged her sisters to be “little pencils in the hand of the Lord” and “channels of the Lord’s charity” and to work to promote vocations in Hong Kong. The first Missionaries of Charity arrived in Hong Kong in 1983 to ‘care for the poorest of the poor and the homeless’ according to their special charisma opening the first of their centres Charity House.
