Rome (Fides Service) - Mgr Giuseppe Wang founder the Chinese speaking Catholic community in Rome and father to all Chinese immigrants the Italian capital, died yesterday 6 June in Rome at the age of 79. Mgr Wang had been in a wheel chair for some time and died after a long illness.
The priest was a point of reference for all Chinese speaking immigrants not only Catholics arriving in Rome. He was received by Pope John Paul II several times. He opened the Agostino Chao Centre for immigrants where he welcomed everyone with open arms.. In his office in the basement of the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli he brought together believers and non offering spiritual guidance. He will be remembered as an eloquent evangeliser and a promoter of Christian love
Giuseppe Wang was born on 29 May 1926 in the archdiocese of Jinan, Shan Dong province. On Christmas Eve 1948, he arrived in Rome where he was sent by the Archbishop of Jinan to study at the Pontifical Urban University. He was ordained a priest on 7 December 1954 in Rome and always said that his priesthood was closely connected with Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception.
The funeral will be held on 8 at the Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli where he was assistant parish priest for 31 years (1968-1999) earning the esteem and admiration of the parishioners. (Agenzia Fides 07/06/2005 Righe: 29 Parole: 308)
