Tuesday, 24 May 2005

Sao Paulo (Fides Service) - On 22 May Trinity Sunday almost at the end of its meeting in Sao Paulo the General Chapter of the Consolata Missionaries re-elected as Superior Mother Gabriella Bono for another six year mandate. After her re-election Mother Gabriella said “communion and co-responsibility in the diversity and richness of our inter-cultural institute will continue to make its life flourish and will accompany us towards the centenary of our foundation”.
Italian born Mother Gabriella will be assisted by Brazilian Sr. Anair Voltolini, until now regional Superior in Mozambique; Sr. Jane Wambui Muguku from Kenya with experience of mission in Liberia and years of service in initial formation; Sr. Simona Brambilla, Italian with missionary experience in Mozambique and who was teaching at the Institute of Psychology at the Gregorian University in Rome; Italian Sr. Renata Conti who has years of missionary experience in Colombia.
The new direction will guide the Institute towards the centenary of its foundation in Turin, Italy, on 29 January 1910 by Blessed Giuseppe Allamano. Today there are Consolata Missionaries in Europe (Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Britain), Africa (Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Mozambique, Somalia, Djibouti, Liberia, Guinea Bissau) and America (Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Bolivia, Colombia and United States). They also have a house in Mongolia opened two years ago. In almost a century the Institute of the Consolata Missionaries has grown and been enriched with members of all different nationalities. In the next six years it will strive for deeper inculturation of its charisma to proclaim Divine Consolation to the many different peoples with whom the missionaries share daily life. (S.L.)
