Vatican City (Fides Service) - A few minutes after eleven o’clock this morning, Wednesday 30 March, Pope John Paul II appeared at the window of his study to greet the crowds who had gathered in St Peter’s Square in the hope of seeing the him and receiving his blessing. Messages of greetings written by the Pope were read out by his aides. In a message for a large group of young people from Milan who had come to visit the tomb of St Peter the Apostle to confirm their faith in the Risen Lord, the Pope said: “Dear young people may friendship with Jesus, our Redeemer, always illuminate your life! Always be united with him, by listening to his Word and by actively taking part in the celebration of the Eucharist. Be his faithful witnesses, especially to other young people. To all I say again happy Easter.” There followed special greetings to German visitors and to Polish pilgrims whom the Pope thanked in particular “for your presence, best wishes and prayers”. After the chanting of the Our Father prayer, the Pope gave his blessing to the people. (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 30/3/2005; righe 12, parole 183)
