Pune (Fides Service) - A community of Carmelite nuns who live a life of contemplation and prayer in their enclosed convent in Pune, in the state of Maharashtra tell how prayers help promote peace and social harmony in India. “We live constantly in the presence of Jesus”, said Mother Superior Agnes Mary in a report sent to Fides by SarNews. “Our religious life and spirituality is centred on Jesus Christ, who is within us whatever our activity”. Besides praying, the Sisters also sew vestments and altar cloths which they sell to earn a living. “Intimate union with God following the charisma St Teresa of Avila is our path. When we pray we have our hearts open to the needs of the whole world. Our chapel is open to anyone wishing to join us for the celebration of Sunday Mass. We often receive visitors of other faiths. We include in our prayers the problems of India and the world, especially for the poor and we pray also for the Pope. We pray that God’s love may reach every corner of the earth”.
