OCEANIA/ISOLE SALOMONE - “Young people, build a new community in Solomon Islands”: Radio Don Bosco broadcasts seminar to promote moral and cultural renewal in the Pacific

Honiara (Fides Service) - Radio Don Bosco, a new community radio non commercial started its activity only recently but it is already in full swing working to spread a message of hope and peace across the waters of the south Pacific. True to Salesian tradition the radio, based in Tetere, targets mainly young people. In a recent seminar broadcast over the radio Fr. Luciano Capelli, a member of the radio team urged the young people of Solomon Islands to offer their own contribution to promote moral and cultural renewal. The seminar held in Honiara 11 - 13 March was on the media and the role of the media and how they can be used to build unity and harmony in a community. For example the radio has shown itself to be a useful means in various experience in different parts of the world.
The seminar consisted of theoretical and practical lessons on the subject of information. The young participants shown how to conduct interviews, write articles and plan radio and video programmes. The Salesians hope the local young people will realise the importance of the media and that they themselves will use their dynamism and creativity to contribute to Radio Don Bosco programmes. “Empowering people, Building community’,. “This is our slogan, and we can to fulfil it.” stressed Salesian Fr. Ambrose Pereira, director of communications Honiara diocese.
