EUROPE/ITALY - Don Massimo Camisasca shares with Fides thoughts on the death of don Luigi Giussani

Tuesday, 22 February 2005

Rome (Fides Service) -With Don Luigi Giussani the lives of thousands and thousands of people have moved over the past fifty years. This happened because he did not fear the movement which the winds of God caused in him, unceasingly day and night.
He did not fear the infinite mysteriousness of those winds and their terrible, embracing, human concreteness. Obeying the Mystery gradually, little by little, step by step, he revealed to us the face of Christ. At the same time, we his followers found ourselves.
These two reciprocal movements, the discovery of the Other and the discovery of self, are the two greatest gifts which don Giussani made to the little ones who listened to him.
Rightly he taught us to have a taste, a passion for reasoning and also the sense of its limits. He made us read hundreds of books, chosen one by one, which made us love history and humanity which made us laugh and cry, which accompanied and accompany us like friends in every season of life. We have learned to look with curiosity, first, then with wonder at many pictures, many paintings, sculptures, photographs. He taught us image and word which do not replace life, do not lead to an illusion or utopia, but which document and indicate reality. (P.L.R.) (Agenzia Fides 22/02/2005 - Righe 15; Parole 219)
