Ouagadougou (Fides Service) - The World Day of the Sick, promoted by the Catholic Church, marked on 11 February all over the world, was celebrated in all six of the Camillian health centres in Burkina Faso in the spirit of Saint Camillus. The main celebration was a Mass at the Camillian Chaplaincy at Ouagadougou state hospital. Various events and activities were organised by the Association of Catholic Health Workers UCASO
On February 10 the Pope’s message for the day was distributed in various languages thanks to the collaboration of the popular local Catholic broadcaster Radio Maria.
During the day special gifts were handed out to the patients and in the evening the Archbishop Jean Maria Untaani Compaore of Ouagadougou, presided a solemn celebration of Mass (broadcast live by Radio Maria), animated by local young people and Camillian novices. The mass was attended by local authorities and representatives of other religions. Also in the evening there was an open air celebration of the Stations of the Cross with hymns in French and Moré at Our Lady of Fatima centre for terminal AIDS patients.
