Calcutta (Fides Service) - Some 460 delegates, former pupils of Don Bosco schools in Asia and Oceania, are meeting today 3 February in Calcutta. This is a gathering of adults and young people including many professionals who received education and training at Salesian schools on two continents. The Vicar of the Superior General of the Congregation, Fr Adriano Bregolin, came from Rome for the occasion and the opening talk was given by Salesian Father Peter Lourdes, on the theme “Salesian Education, Celebration of Holiness”.
“Education received in Salesian schools is a heritage which we take with us to the world of work, and as we form our families”, said a representative of the assembly, “This heritage is most useful and it helps us to live our Christian mission as lay Catholics in society and in the world of work”.
The meeting of former Salesian pupils is an opportunity for formation and prayer, sharing and comparison with different Salesian situations in different countries, under the banner of unity stemming from shared charisma. Salesian Sisters involved in education, particularly in India will also be present. Local Salesian pupils and friends will visit the meeting. In India the Association of Former Salesian Pupils has 32,000 members.
