ASIA/NEPAL - The Camillian Task Force in areas which are isolated and without aid

Wednesday, 6 May 2015

Kathmandu (Agenzia Fides) - According to the latest updates sent to Agenzia Fides by Father Gianfranco Lunardon, Secretary General of the Camillians (MI), the Camillian Task Force (CTF) India team arrived in the Nepalese capital on April 28 and is working in close collaboration with Caritas India and Caritas Nepal (see Fides 28/04/2015).
Fr. Pius is the Director of Caritas Nepal and is the Coordinator of the project. "All organizations have focused their aid in the capital and remote areas have not yet been reached. Brother Madhu, the medical officer of CTF Indiana and Mr. Royce, responsible for the program, went to four remote areas assigned to them by Caritas Nepal: Gorkha, Nuwakot, Kavre and Sindupalchowk, with many volunteer groups", refers father Lunardon to Fides.
"Just a few days ago the CTF team and Caritas India reached Swara, the area under the epicenter of the quake. They met a group of nuns of the order of Jesus, the Good Shepherd who organized a medical camp, but they had medicines for only a week. Upon completion of the camp with the arrival of medicines and new CTF volunteers from India, brother Madhu and the others are heading towards Barpak and Larpak, where no one has yet come with aid", continues the religious. "The villages closer to the epicenter area can be reached only on foot because roads have been completely destroyed by the quake. New medical camps must be set up but also tents for the people who no longer have a roof. We need everything: water purification kits, medicines, food, tents and other basic necessities", concluded Fr. Lunardon. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 06/05/2015)
