Wednesday, 29 April 2015

Kathmandu (Agenzia Fides) - The death toll due to the massive earthquake that hit Nepal on April 25 is unfortunately increasing. The children affected by this disaster have tripled. Now there is also the fear that children remain victims of trafficking. According to information sent to Agenzia Fides, the missions of the Non-profit Foundation Brothers Forget have not recorded any damage in Bharawal and Biratnagar. About 6.6 million people have been affected by the earthquake in 34 districts and one million people have been left without a roof. In Kathmandu everything has stopped, the people are desperate. There is no electricity, no water, there are no safe places to sleep. Many bodies are still buried in the rubble, there are thousands of wounded waiting for care on the roads and there is not sufficient medicines. The risk that is feared is the explosion of an epidemic. Meanwhile, the earth continues to shake, and the situation could worsen with the imminent arrival of monsoons.
"We are working - said one of the members of the Foundation - with local partners, Caritas Nepal and Salesians, to intervene and bring relief to the affected population. The situation is dramatic, water, food, shelter and emergency medical care are needed. They desperately need help, it is important to act now. "The non-profit Foundation Brothers Forget promotes the self-reliance of rural communities in the countries of the southern hemisphere as a determining factor to ensure the future of children and the dignity of adults.
