AFRICA/UGANDA - Police release Rev. Matthew Ojiam, arrested on charges of contact with rebels in northern Uganda

Gulu (Fides Service) - Rev. Matthew Ojiam has been released, Archbishop John Baptist Odama, of Gulu told Fides “Rev Ojiam is free but police say they will continue their investigation with regard to contact with the rebels” the Archbishop said. Until his position is clarified the priest will not return to his diocese.
Rev Ojiama, vicar episcopal of Kitgum, was arrested with two other priests on November 1st at the priests house in Christ the King parish diocese of Kitgum. The other priest were released shortly afterwards. Rev Ojiama is accused of being in contact with the Lord resistance Army rebels. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 5/11/2004 righe 15 parole 142)
