VATICAN - RSS: new tool for evangelisation via the Internet: click to read Fides News without a browser

Wednesday, 6 October 2004

Fides Service - From today thanks to RSS (Really Simple Syndication), you can read Fides News items as they are ready. This new service is operated by a “feed reader” programme which at regular intervals takes these files from various sites which offer this service putting them on one list. This means all the titles of news available on the web are immediately available.
Registration of a site offering feeds is done with a simple “copy and paste” of a link available on a web page.
Reed readers are available for all operative systems, many are free others can be integrated directly with the browser making available a menu item which shows a detailed summary of news in a few seconds.
Some offer advanced functions of a sound or visual warning when news is published on the registered site .
Fides also offers a service to allow webmasters to integrate freely in their own site a box with Fides News titles by copying a line of code in one’s own web page. The box, for which the graphics can be personalised (colours, font, etc) to suit your page, will ensure that your site is updated with interesting news in five languages. This service is available in English Italian and Spanish at the moment. (L.I.) (Agenzia Fides 6/10/2004; Righe 19; Parole 250)
