Wednesday, 6 October 2004

Rome (Fides Service) - The 32nd National Meeting “Africa Mission - Cooperation and Development” will take place in Assisi 8 - 10 October at Domus Pacis house in S. Maria degli Angeli to reflect on the theme “from giving… to going”.
On the tenth anniversary of the founder Rev. Vittorio Pastori, who in 1972 built a bridge of solidarity from Italy to Uganda with the then Bishop Piacenza Bishop Enrico Manfredini, Africa Mission - Cooperation and Development movement has organised an intense programme to reflect on the role and significance of mission in present day society. Among the many speakers emeritus Bishop of Acerra Antonio Riboldi and rev. Giosy Cento priest/singer and author. The programme includes testimony from people who knew Rev. Vittorione and shared his path of charity which lasted more than 30 years and thanks to which almost 10,000 tons of food aid and other basic necessities have been sent to Uganda. More than 1,200 wells were dug or repaired, particularly in the arid northern zone of Karamoja and more recently to the Pader district affected by violence at the hands of rebel militia led by di Joseph Kony.
