AFRICA/CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC - Appointment of the Bishop of Bossangoa

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Benedict XVI on May 14, 2012 appointed Rev. Fr. Nestor-Désiré-Nongo Aziagbia, S.M.A., Superior of the Community of Haguenau in Strasbourg, France, and Superior of the same District of the S.M.A. Fathers as Bishop of Bossangoa (Centroafrica).
Fr. Nestor-Desire-Nongo Aziagbia, S.M.A., was born on March 6, 1970 in M'Baiki. He professed his first profession in 1994. He studied philosophy in Bangui (Central Africa), at the National Major Seminary Saint Marc, and Theology at the SS. Peter and Paul Major Seminary, in Ibadan, Nigeria. Later he obtained a Licentiate in Dogmatic Theology at the University of Strasbourg, in France, and is completing his Doctorate at the same university. He was ordained a priest on 23 August 1998. After his priestly ordination he has held the following positions: 1998-2004: Parish Vicar and Parish Priest, Director of vocations, Member of the Council for Economic Affairs and the Board of Councillors in the Vicariate of Kontagora (Nigeria); since 2004: Superior of the Community of Haguenau in Strasbourg, and the same District of the S.M.A. Fathers. He is also Pastor of the parish Community "Terre des missions" of Weitbruch, Gries, Kurtzenhouse, Niederschaeffolsheim and Harthouse, and Chaplain of the College of the S.M.A Fathers of Haguenau.
The Diocese of Bossangoa, erected in 1964, has an area of 62,420 square kilometers and a population of 612,000 inhabitants, of whom 281,000 are Catholics. There are 15 parishes, 38 priests (33 diocesan and 5 religious ), 6 religious brothers, 16 nuns and 28 seminarians. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 15/5/2012)
