Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Benedict XVI on May 4, 2012 appointed Rev. James Romen Boiragi, former Vicar General of Khulna as Bishop of the Diocese of Khulna (Bangladesh), .
Rev. James Romen Boiragi was born on May 3, 1955 in the village of Holdibunia, in the parish of St. Paul, Shelabunia, diocese of Khulna. After completing primary and secondary schools in the villagewhere he was born, he first entered the Minor Seminary St. Francis Xavier and then St. Joseph Intermediate Seminary in Ramna, Dhaka, while attending Notre Dame College, in Dhaka. He completed his studies in philosophy and theology for priestly formation at the Holy Spirit National Major Seminary in Dhaka. After ordination on January 13, 1985, he has held the following positions: 1985-1992: Parochial Vicar of St. Joseph Cathedral in Khulna; 1992-1996: Studies for a Doctorate in canon law at the Pontifical Urban University; 1996 -1998: Pastor of the Cathedral; from 1998 to 2011: Vicar General of the diocese of Khulna and Vice judicial Vicar of the diocesan Tribunal. Since 2011 he has been Diocesan Administrator of the vacant diocese of Khulna. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 04/05/2012)
