AFRICA/LIBYA - Forthcoming visit of the Apostolic Nuncio to Libya

Saturday, 24 September 2011

Tripoli (Agenzia Fides) - "His Exc. Mgr. Tommaso Caputo, Apostolic Nuncio to Malta and Libya, should come to Tripoli on September 28 for a courtesy call" says Giovanni Innocenzo Martinelli to Fides, Apostolic Vicar of Tripoli. The Nuncio lives in La Valletta, Malta. Regarding the situation in the Libyan capital, Mgr. Martinelli states that "life goes on quite normally in Tripoli, but fighting in areas where there are pockets of resistance on behalf of Gaddafi’s men also create problems in the health field. The wounded are taken to Misratha".
"Yesterday - continues the Apostolic Vicar of Tripoli - I celebrated two Masses and the church was full of worshipers, who participated with intensity. Today and tomorrow we will celebrate other Masses. The people with whom I spoke seem quite serene. They all hope that everything goes back to normality as soon as possible. There is still some uncertainty, although there are numerous checkpoints. We always hope for a peaceful future for this beloved country", concludes Mgr.Martinelli. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 24/09/2011)
