AFRICA/CAMEROON - Appointment of the Rector of the Theological Major Seminary "Notre Dame de l'Espérance" in the Archdiocese of Bertoua

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Archbishop Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, on 15 July 2011 appointed Rector of the inter-diocesan Theological Major Seminary "Notre Dame de l'Espérance" in the Archdiocese of Bertoua (Cameroon), Fr. Jean-Parfait Ateba, the diocesan clergy from Yokadouma.
The new Rector was born October 20, 1971 in Meyos (Cameroon). After his primary studies at the Catholic school "Saint Jean Bosco" in Nkomotou (1977-84), he attended the minor Seminary "Sainte Therese" of Mvolyé (1984-92) and then the Major Seminary "Immaculate Conception" of Nkolbisson (1992 -99), where he obtained a licentiate in theology. It was ordained a priest on 12 December 1999 in Yokadouma. He then served as Vicar of the Cathedral (1999-2000) and Pastor (2000-02). From 2002 to 2005 he specialized in Canon Law and graduated at the UCAC (Université Catholique d'Afrique Centrale). From 2005 to 2007 he was the Prefect of Studies and professor at the major Seminary "Notre Dame de l'Espérance" of Bertoua, in addition to his role as judge of the ecclesiastical court of the Eastern Province. From 2007 to 2010 he attended the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome where he obtained his doctorate. Since October 2010 he was prefect of studies in theology and professor of canon law, bioethics and justice and peace, at the Seminar "Notre Dame de l'Esperance". (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 23/09/2011)
