AFRICA/CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC - Appointment of Rector of the Major Seminary "Saint Marc" in the Archdiocese of Bangui

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – On 15 August, 2011 Archbishop Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed Rector of the National Major Seminary "Saint Marc" in the Archdiocese of Bangui (Central African Republic) , Fr. Edouard Tsimba Ngoma, of the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary-Scheut missionaries, CICM.
The new Rector was born on April 11, 1957 in Boma (Democratic Republic of Congo), professed his first vows in September 1978 and was ordained a priest on August 13, 1989. He studied philosophy at the Major Seminary in Kimwenza/Kinshasa (1978-81), then in 1982 was sent to Haiti, where he also studied theology at the Major Seminary of Port-au-Prince (1985-89). In the United States (1991-92) he studied to become a teacher. He has held the following positions: Assistant priest in Haiti; Master of Novices and postulants, responsible of the apprentices in Haiti; Vice President of the Union of religious men and women teachers in Haiti; General Director of the CICM, responsible for the initial teaching (1999-2005) ; CICM Superior General (2005-2011), the first non-European; President of SEDOS, section of the Union of Superior General; Synod Father in 2009 (Second Special Assembly for Africa of the Synod of Bishops).
