EUROPE-Evangelization, youth, dialogue in the continent under examination of the Jesuits

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - A special meeting of the Council of the Jesuit Conference of European Provincials (CEP) to put into action a strategic plan for the next three to four years was recently held. According to information sent to Fides by the General Curia, the Chairman of the meeting, Fr John Dardis, summarized in these terms the main points discussed: "First we looked at evangelization and its importance throughout Europe, in a very important period of secularization. The charisma of the Jesuits is one of openness to culture, to meet God in all things and to help people to meet him too. This is our unique contribution to the Church. A second key idea in our discussions was to pay particular attention to young people. Wherever young people have deep hunger and great potentiality. Will we be able to help in bringing out this potentiality and develop it? As far as interreligious dialogue is concerned, what was stressed is that actually there are more dialogues. Islam is not the only group with which we interact, even if dialogue is perhaps the most complex and difficult. We must not forget even the ecumenical dialogue between all Christian Churches. Finally, we stressed the importance of helping the renewal of the Church throughout Europe. "(SL) (Agenzia Fides 05/20/2011)
