AFRICA/CAMEROON - Appointment of Bishop of Bamenda

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Benedict XVI appointed Fr Agapitus Enuyehnyoh Nfon of the clergy of Kumbo, as Auxiliary Bishop of Bamenda (area 10,000, population 1,261,000, Catholics 303,729, priests 92, religious 296), Cameroon and Titular Bishop of Unizibira. The Bishop-elect was born in Shishong, in the Diocese of Kumbo, Cameroon, on 11 February 1964. He studied Philosophy and Theology in his homeland at the Major Seminary of St Thomas Aquinas in Bamenda. He was ordained a priest on 22 March 1991 and appointed to the Diocese of Kumbo. After his ordination he held the following ministries: 1991 – 1992: Assistant parish priest at St Theresa Quasi Parish, Sop, and then at St Theresa Cathedral Parish, Kumbo; 1991 – 1993: School Administrator for the parishes of Kumbo and Meluf; 1992 – 1993: Chaplain and Professor at St Augustine’s College, Kumbo; 1993 – 1994: Parish priest at St Pius X, Tatum; 1994 – 1995: Secretary for the Bishops of Kumbo; 1995 – 1996: Secretary for diocesan finances; 1996 – 1998: Director of St Augustine’s College, Kumbo, and diocesan Chaplain for the Association for Catholic Women (CWA); 1998 – 2001: Studies for Lienciate in Theology at the Augustinianum in Rome; 2001 – 2004: Formator at the Major Seminary of St Thomas Aquinas, Bambui; 2004 – 2005: Treasurer of the same Seminary. Since2005: Rector of the same Seminary. Since 2007 he was also appointed a Member of the College of Advisors for the Diocese of Kumbo. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 8/04/2011)
