Thursday, 24 March 2011

Macao (Agenzia Fides) – To intensify the exchange of experiences and initiatives in the work of youth ministry and to develop a program of training for youth ministry: these were the two main themes discussed during the meeting of youth pastoral workers in Eastern Asia held in Macao from 1-3 March. According to information received by Fides, the meeting was organised by the Youth Office in the Department for the Laity and Family of the FABC (Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences), and saw the participation of delegates from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea. Bishop José Lai Hung-seng, Bishop of the Diocese of Macao, presided at the solemn closing Eucharist. The young people of Macao who work in the many local casinos shared with participants their views on the social impact of this vice, and young Christians' response to this challenge. Fr Paul Kam Po Wai, President of the Commission for Youth Ministry for the Diocese of Hong Kong, together with the Executive Secretary, took part in the meeting, bringing with them the experience in Hong Kong. The next meeting of East Asian youth pastoral workers, in 2012, will be held in Taipei and will be held simultaneously with a formation course for youth ministers. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 24/03/2011)
