Friday, 18 March 2011

Tripoli (Agenzia Fides) - “Everyone from the Italian Embassy and Consulate has left,” says Bishop Giovanni Innocenzo Martinelli, Apostolic Vicar of Tripoli, Libya, to Fides. “Yesterday the staff of the Embassy celebrated 150 years of Italian unity together,” recounts Bishop Martinelli. “This morning, unexpectedly, the Ambassador called me to tell me that they received orders to depart immediately. With him departed all personnel from the Embassy and the Consulate. We intend to stay. We will monitor the developments and pray.” Bishop Martinelli is particularly concerned about the situation in Bengasi: “I am not able to contact Bengasi and I am worried about what is going on there.” (LM) (Agenzia Fides 18/03/2011)
