EUROPE/CROATIA - Appointment of National Director of Pontifical Mission Societies

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Card. Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, on 14 January 2011, appointed as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Croatia, for the period 2011-2015, Fr Antun Stefan, from the diocesan clergy of Varazdin.
The new National Director was born on 10 March 1960 in Prelog. He received his licentiate in Zagreb as a student of the Minor Seminary. Then as a seminarian in the Archdiocese of Zagreb je studied theology in the Theology Faculty in Zagreb, where he received his diploma in 1986. He was ordained a priest in 1986 in Zagreb. At the request of the Bishop of Porto Novo, in August 1986 he went on mission in Benin, where he stayed for 18 years, 16 of which he was parish priest of Adjarri. In 1997 he transferred to the Diocese of Varazdin. In 2007 he was appointed spiritual director of the interdiocesan Minor Seminary in Zagreb. While back at home, he was able to monitor the work of Croatian missionaries and participate in the work of the Episcopal Commission for Missions. (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 10/03/2011)
