AFRICA/GUINEA - Appointment of National Director of Pontifical Missionary Society

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, on 5 May 2010, appointed as National Director of the Pontifical Missionary Society in Guinea from 2010-2016, Father Jean-Pierre Delamou, from the diocesan clergy of N’zérékoré.
The new National Director was born on 5 January 1956 in Dakar (Senegal). In 1969 he entered thte Jean XXIII Minor Seminary (Kindia, Guinea). Then, in 1976, he progressed to the Saint Pierre Claver di Koumi Major Seminary (Burkina Faso). He was ordained a priest on 24 July 1983 in the Diocese of N’zérékoré (Guinea). After his priestly ordination he was parish priest (1983-85); Director of Saint Eugène Seminary (1985-89); Vicar general of the diocese (1987-1990). He then studied Canon Law at the “l’Institut catholique de Paris” receiving his Doctorate (1990-97). He then taught at Saint Augustin Major Seminary in Bamako, Mali (1997-2005); he studied English in Kumasi, Ghana (2005-06); he was parish priest in Samoé (diocese of N’zérékoré) from 2006 to 2007; diocesan chancellor (since 2007); diocesan administrator of N’zérékoré (2007-08); director of Saint Eugène Seminary (since 2009); judicial vicar of the Diocese of N’zérékoré (since 2009).
