EUROPE/THE NETHERLANDS - Appointment of National Director of Pontifical Mission Societies

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, on 1 January 2011, appointed as National Director of Pontifical Mission Socities in the Netherlands from 2011-2015, Father Eduard Kimmam, of the Society of Jesus (SJ).
The new National Director was born on 14 July 1946. He attended St Aloysius College, The Hague (Netherlands). He commenced his novitiate with the Jesuits on 7 September 1965 and made his vows on 8 September 1967. He studied economics from 1967 to 1972, at the Netherlands School of Economics, Rotterdam. Placed in the Indonesian Jesuit Province from 1973 to 1983, he studied philosophy and Theology in Jakarta and in Yogyakarta. He received his license in theology in 1978 and was ordained priest in the same year. From 1978 to 1983 he worked at the university. He received his Ph.D. in economics in 1981. From 1983 to 1985 he studied moral theology at the Jesuits' Pontifical Faculty, California (USA). From 1985 he has worked in the Netherlands and since 1989 has been teaching in various universities. From 2002 to 2008 he was Secretary General of the Episcopal Conference in Utrecht, and from 2008, treasurer of the Jesuit Province of the Netherlands and president of the commission of the Bishops' Campaign for Lent.
