AFRICA/NIGERIA - Appointment of Rector of inter-diocesan St Jospeh's Major Seminary in Ikot Ekpene

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect for the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, on 5 November 2010 appointed as Rector of the inter-diocesan St Jospeh's Major Seminary, in the diocese of Ikot Ekpene (Nigeria), Father Israel Ekpo, from the Archdiocese of Calabar.
The new Rector was born on 30 November 1951 in Ikot Eboro and was ordained priest on 10 December 1977 in the Archdiocese of Calabar. He attended the St Peter and Paul Seminary in Ibadan, then the University of London and then that of Ibadan. He completed a Master of Philosophy and a Doctorate in Philosophy of Religion. He was assistant and docent at the Federal College of Education of Oyo; the National Institute of moral and religious education in Akoka, Lagos; the St Joseph Major Seminary of Ikot Ekpene. He has published numerous articles and books. He has carried out his pastoral ministry as assistant parish priest, parish priest and chaplain. He has been a member of various national and international organisations and associations, and of studies in the areas of religion, philosophy and education. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 20/01/2011)
