AFRICA/BURKINA FASO - Resignation of Bishop of Manga and appointment of successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Benedict XVI on 28 December, 2010, accepted the resignation from the pastoral care ministry of the Diocese of Manga (Burkina Faso), presented by Bishop Wenceslas Comparoré, in accordance with canon 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law. The Holy Father has appointed as Bishop of Manga (Burkina Faso), Father Gabriel Sayaogo of the clergy of Ouahigouya, Vicar General of the Diocese of Ouahigouya.
Father Gabriel Sayaogo, was born on 9 January, 1962, in Niességa, in the Diocese of Ouahigouya. He studied in his homeland and in Italy, at the Pontifical Urban University, where he graduated in Canon Law. He was ordained a priest on 13 July, 1991, for the diocese of Ouahigouya. He held the following positions: 1991-1997: assistant parish priest of the Cathedral of Ouahigouya; 1997-2001: Studied for a degree in canon law from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome; 2001-2004: parish priest at the Cathedral of Ouahigouya; 2003-2007: Professor of Canon Law at the major seminary of Koum; 2007-2009: Vicar General of the Diocese of Ouahigouya; 2009-2010: Apostolic Administrator of Ouahigouya; since 2010: Vicar General of the Diocese of Ouahigouya.
