OCEANIA/PACIFIC ISLANDS - National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, on 27 November 2009 appointed as National Director of Pontifical Mission Societies in the Pacific Islands (2009-2014), Sister Merieti Riiki, of the “Filles de Notre-Dame du Sacre Coeur” (FDNSC).
The new National Director was born in 1965 in the Diocese of Tarawa and Nauru (Kiribati). She has been a religious in the Filles de Notre-Dame du Sacre Coeur (FDNSC) for 19 years. Her religious training was held in Kiribati and Australia. On her return to her homeland, she worked for two years with the team of evangelization in the country. From 1992 to 1993, she studied at the Pastoral Institute of Kiribati, and then taught in secondary school, also in Kiribati. From 2001 to 2003, she studied for a degree in Education at the Corpus Christi Catholic Teachers' Training College in Suva (Fiji Islands). In 2004, she was appointed Deputy National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies by the Bishops' Conference of the Pacific Islands. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 05/06/2010)
