ASIA/KOREA - Auxiliary Bishop of Pusan appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Benedict XVI, on June 4, 2010, appointed as Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Pusan (Korea), Fr. Joseph Son Sam-seok, Dean of the Faculty of Theology at the Major Seminary of Pusan, assigning him the Titular See of Fessei.
Fr. Joseph Son Sam-seok was born November 3, 1955 in Pusan. He attended secondary school at the Minor Seminary in the Diocese. He studied ecclesiastical studies and earned a Masters at the Major Seminary of Kwangju (1972-1982). He was ordained a priest on February 6, 1982 for the Diocese of Pusan. After his ordination, he had the following assignments: 1982-1983: Parish Vicar, Beomil, 1983-1987: Pastor, Jeonpo, 1987-1989: Studies at the East Asian Pastoral Institute, Manila, Philippines, 1989-1992: Studies for a Doctorate in Theology at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome, 1992-2001: Professor in the Faculty of Theology at the Catholic University (seminary) in Pusan, 2001-2006: Rector of that University, from 2008: Professor of Theology in that University; from 2009: Dean of the Faculty of Theology in the same University.
