AFRICA/NIGERIA - National Director of Pontifical Mission Societies appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, on December 22, 2009 appointed Fr. George Ajana Olusegun of the diocesan clergy of Ekiti, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Nigeria for a five-year term.
The new National Director was born July 9, 1969 in Ado Ekiti. After studying in primary schools in his city, he attended the Major Seminary of Sts Peter and Paul in Ekpoma (1986/87) and the Major Seminary in Bodija, Ibadan (1987/94), then continued his studies at the Catholic Institute of West Africa (CIWA) in Port Harcourt (2001/2003) and the University of Ado in Ekiti (UNAD) (2007/2008). He graduated in theology and with a master's degree in education. Among the other positions he has held are: assistant pastor and pastor in several parishes, professor at the novitiate of the Sisters of St Michael the Archangel at Ado Ekiti, member of the editorial team of the diocesan newspaper, Associate Coordinator of the Development Commission, Justice and Peace, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, and Diocesan Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies.
