EUROPE/GERMANY - COLOGNE: “TRUSTING IN GOD’S WORD”: THE PONTIFICAL MISSION SOCIETIES PRESENT CAMPAIGN FOR OCTOBER MISSIONARY MONTH IN YEAR OF THE BIBLE

Wednesday, 11 June 2003

Aachen/Munich (Fides Service) – On June 16 in Cologne, the Pontifical Mission Societies in Germany, with head offices in Aachen and Munich, will present their sensitivity campaign for the missionary month of October. Because this year the Church in Germany is celebrating the ‘Year of the Bible’, the motto for this year’s mission campaign is “Trusting in God’s Word”. During the month of October in every diocese and parish in Germany the PMS have organised over 500 initiatives to illustrate as many projects sustained with PMS help in countries in the south of the world, underlining the importance still today of the Church’s missionary activity.
With their Trusting in God’s Word campaign initiatives missio Aachen and Munich intend to remind Christians in this Year of the Bible that the only way to change the world is to base their lives on the Gospel. One magnificent example of a life modelled on the Gospel is that of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, whom Pope John Paul II will beatify precisely on World Mission Sunday in October in Rome. Good examples are also Basic Christian Communities, active in many countries. During the campaign the work of these communities in the Philippines will be highlighted and illustrated.
The Campaign will be presented and illustrated on June 16 by the two National Directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Germany: Father Hermann Schalűck OFM (missio Aachen) and Mgr. Konrad Lachenmayer (missio Munich) MS (Fides Service 11/6/2003 EM lines 16 Words: 215)
