ASIA/MYANMAR - New institute of consecrated life opened in Myanmar based on the spirituality of Saint Theresa the Little Flower

Hakha (Fides Service) - “Sisters of the Little Way of Saint Theresa”: is the official name of an Institute of Consecrated Life of Carmelite spirituality, founded jointly by Bishop Nicholas Mang Thang, of Hakha diocese in Myanmar and Miss Mary Doohan who founded the Little Way Association in England. The Institute, founded in 1995, was elevated to the rank of Congregation of Diocesan Right with the approval of its Constitutions on 3 April 2004.
According to information sent to Fides by the General House of the Order of Discalsed Carmelites the Institutes are two, one for men and the other for women. The Bishop of Hakha describes the situation: “With regard to the Sisters of the Little Way of Saint Theresa, in 8 years we have gathered 63 professed Sisters and in June another 30 will make their first profession. In June therefore we will have 93 professed Sisters. We have 23 aspirants, 35 postulants, 18 in the first year of their novitiate, 30 in the 2nd year, 18 junior Sisters, and 20 in the year of spiritual preparation before being sent on mission. With regard to male members of the Little Way of Saint Theresa we have three men who have completed their studies in philosophy, 18 in the intermediate year, and 11 at the minor seminary ”. (S.L.)
