AFRICA/TANZANIA - Two Auxiliary Bishops for Archdiocese of Dar-es-Salaam appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – The Holy Father Benedict XVI, on January 28, 2010, appointed two Auxiliary Bishops for the Archdiocese of Dar-es-Salaam (Tanzania): Fr. Eusebius Alfred Nzigilwa, of the clergy of Dar-es-Salaam, currently Rector of St. Mary's Minor Seminary in Visiga and Fr. Salutaris Melchior Libena, of the clergy of Mahenge, Professor and Spiritual Director at St. Paul's Major Seminary in Kipalapala. Fr. Nzigilwa has been assigned the titular see of Mozotcori and Fr. Libena has been assigned the titular see of Sutunurca.
Fr. Salutaris Melchior Libena was born November 23, 1963, in the parish of ITET, in the Ulanga District, Diocese of Mahenge. He completed his primary studies in 1978 in Ifakara. From 1979 to 1982, he attended the Minor Seminary in Kasita for secondary education (up to “Form IV”), he then transfered to the Minor Seminary in Mafinga, in the Diocese of Iringa. He entered St. Augustine's Major Seminary in Peramiho for formation and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Mahenge on June 29, 1991. After ordination, he held the following positions: 1991-1995: Biology Teacher, formator at the Minor Seminary of St. Francis in Kasita and Dean for the Discipline; 1995-1998: Pastor in Sofi and Dean of ITET, at the same time Rector of St. Patrick's Seminary Preliminary Course, 1999-2001: studies for a Licentiate in Sacred Liturgy at the Pontifical Athenaeum of St. Anselm in Rome, 2002-2003: back to the Minor Seminary in Kasita as formator and Religion professor for a short time, then transferred as Professor at Ntungamo Major Seminary in the Diocese of Bukoba. Since 2003: Professor, Spiritual Director, and Academic Dean at the St. Paul's Theological Major Seminary in Kipalapala.
Fr. Eusebius Alfred Nzigilwa, was born August 14, 1966, in the town of Mwanza. After primary and secondary education at St. Peter's Junior Seminary in Morogoro, he carried out a year of military service and in 1988, entered the Philosophical Seminary of Kibosho in Moshi, then moved to the Theological Seminary of Kipalapala in Tabora, in 1990. He was ordained a priest on June 23, 1995 for the Archdiocese of Dar-es-Salaam. After his ordination, he held the following positions: 1995-1996: formator in the Archdiocesan formation house of Kunduchi Mtongoni; 1996-1997: Diocesan Director of the Holy Childhood Association; 1997-1999: Rector of St. Mary's Minor Seminary in Visiga, Archdiocese of Dar-es-Salaam, 1999-2003: studies at the University of Dar-es-Salaam, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Education, 2003-2008: once again Rector of St. Mary's Minor Seminary.
