ASIA/CHINA - Intense celebration of the Year for Priests in mainland China

Beijing (Agenzia Fides) – This evening, November 16, marks the beginning of the training course for priests organized for the Year for Priests by Faith Center in the city of Shi Jia Zhuang, He Bei Province in mainland China. According to information that reached Fides, the Chinese Catholic community is experiencing intensely the celebration of the Year for Priests declared by the Holy Father, in the light of the Letter of Benedict XVI for the Year for Priests. Meetings, workshops, the consecration of new churches are taking place in all communities, to live this "special year" in communion with the Universal Church.
The priests of the Diocese of Hai Men, of the Zhe Jiang Province, have just concluded their retreat November 9-12 for the Year for Priests, inviting Fr. Peter Zhao, Vicar of the Diocese of Beijing, to preach on the official theme of the Year for Priests "Faithfulness of Christ, Faithfulness of Priests.” More than 2,000 faithful from the Diocese of Lan Zhou of Gan Su Province attended the consecration of the new church of Nan Hu, dedicating it in this Year for Priests. More than 20 priests and some thirty religious took part in the ceremony. The “Letter of Pope for the Opening of the Year for Priests" and "Priesthood Today" (a book that collects the Vatican II documents on the priesthood) are the main texts for the training course of the Diocese of Yi Bin, Si Chuan Province, on the Year for Priests.
