ASIA/TAIWAN - “Turning over a new page in Taiwan's evangelization” and the invitation of the Secretary General of the Taiwan Regional Bishops' Conference

Monday, 26 October 2009

Taipei (Agenzia Fides) - “Turning over a new page in Taiwan's evangelization” is the title of the address given by Fr. Chen Ke, Secretary General of the Taiwan Regional Bishops' Conference, at the seminar held for World Mission Sunday, sponsored by the Pontifical Mission Societies of Taiwan. After a thorough reading aloud of the Message of Pope Benedict XVI for World Mission Sunday 2009 - “The nations will walk in its light” (Rev. 21:24), the Secretary General of the Regional Bishops' Conference reflected on and analyzed the meaning of the Message, highlighting 7 reasons for the importance of the mission: “the death of the Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross is for the mission”; “we have become children of God for the mission”; “we are all called to the ad gentes mission”; “the effusion of the Holy Spirit is for the mission”; “the Church's assistance is for the mission”; “life is for the mission”; “awaiting the Lord's second coming, we are invited to the mission.” Lastly, he expressed his hope that “with the celebration of the 150th anniversary of evangelization, the Church in Taiwan will finally become a missionary Church, which will write a new page of glory in the history of the Church in Taiwan.” Fr. Chen Ke, priest of the Archdiocese of Taipei, was appointed Secretary General of the Regional Bishops' Conference of Taiwan during their Spring Assembly held last April. He began his 3-year-term on April 27, 2009. (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 26/10/2009)
