Piura (Agenzia Fides) – The Archbishop of Piura and President of Caritas Piura and Tumbes, Archbishop Jose Antonio Eguren Anselmi, recently presented the “Integral Plan for developing food security in 19 farming areas in Tumbes.” As the Archdiocesan press office notes, the objective of the project is to contribute to “an improvement in the quality of life and sustained development of the natural resources of our region.” During his address, Archbishop Eguren thanked God for the “gift” of this initiative and encouraged those heading it up to make it “an occasion for all of us to work united and give an example of solidarity and unity to our country that is so in need.”
At the same time, he highlighted that the execution of the plan should take place with great responsibility, “to open the doors to more foreign investments.” In the practice, it implies caring for fish farms, gardens, store rooms, stalls for sheep, goats, cows, etc. There are also plans for first aid care centers and drinking water, in addition to water for irrigation, hygiene services, health classes, organization and management, etc. The “Integral Plan” for developing food security will be supported by the Catholic Agency “Manos Unidas” and will bring aid to over 3,000 citizens of Tumbes.
