Wednesday, 23 September 2009

Mercedes (Agenzia Fides) – On September 27, the Diocese of Mercedes in Uruguay will celebrate its 50th anniversary. “We should give thanks to the Lord for our Diocese,” said Bishop Carlos Collazzi of Mercedes, in his letter declaring the celebrations. “We thank all those who have preceded us on our faith journey and who have taught us by word and example how to be Christians.” The Bishop considers the celebration of the 50th anniversary an authentic “Jubilee” that helps to realize with joy “the work of God” and “receive His gifts and continue on our daily path of fidelity to Christ.”
Various activities have been scheduled for the celebration of this Diocesan Jubilee whose slogan is: “Come and celebrate! Jesus has made us borthers.” There will be an entire day of “encountes and celebrations,” as the Bishop states, which will close at 5pm with a Mass in the Cathedral. “May the Lord grant us a day of festivity and fraternity,” and “may the Virgin Mary, who we venerate with the name of “Merced,” who frees us from all slavery, make us grow in our commitment to the faith,” Bishop Collazzi concluded.
