AMERICA/COLOMBIA - Diocese of Arauca turns 25: September 19th Mass presided by Apostolic Nuncio

Bogota (Agenzia Fides) – On Saturday, September 19th the Diocese of Arauca will celebrate its 25th anniversary of erection. On the occasion, the Apostolic Nuncio of Colombia, Archbishop Aldo Cavalli, will celebrate a Mass at 10am at the Saint Barbara Cathedral. In celebration of the Diocesan Jubilee, all the Bishops and Vicars of the Pastoral Ministry of the ecclesial jurisdiction that work on the Process for Renewal and Evangelization (PRD/E) came together yesterday, September 16, to meet until September 20, in a spirit of “reflection, dialogue, and co-responsibility.” They will be focusing on the theme of the “liturgical dimension as a dimension celebrated by the Christian life in development and application of the Process of Renewal and Evangelization.”
The Diocese of Arauca was erected by Pope John Paul II on July 19, 1984 with the bull “Accuratissima Sumis.” Two months later, on September 19-20, in the Saint Barbara Cathedral in Arauca, the act of inauguration and the installment of the first Bishop Jesus Emilio Jaramillo Monsalve took place. The Diocese, a suffragan of Nuova Pamplona, is led by Bishop Carlo German Mesa Ruiz. It has a population of 276,000 inhabitants, 246,000 of whom are Catholic, 24 parishes, 42 diocesan priests, 6 religious priests, 46 seminarians, 6 religious (not priests), and 51 religious sisters.
